“Anxiety created fear in me. It stopped a lot of opportunities and it had a strong hold over me for a long time. I was opposed to medication.. I felt that if I went on it I wouldn’t be ‘normal’ or people would think I had a problem. After a conversation with a woman of experience I decided to give it a go. I now understand that I was born with high levels of anxiety caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Growing up I had no idea I suffered from anxiety, just like my grandma and uncle. It wasn’t something that was talked about.

Going on medication has reduced my anxiety significantly. I have been able to face my fears which seemed unbearable before. I can embrace the exciting changes and challenges that life offers, like travelling overseas. Talking about anxiety and understanding why you react in a certain way helps because you don’t feel judged or alone. If I need to take medication to embrace life then it’s something worth doing.”
