“Care for the earth, care for the people and fair share – this is what we try to practice and teach to the group of south Auckland students who visit our farm each week. Manurewa High School were looking to start up a horticulture stream for their year twelves and needed a site for their practical training. Our farm, Permakai, became this site and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience seeing them enjoy what they are doing and being able to show what has come from their own hard work. Working with soil releases a feel good hormone. Gardening is a good thing – the kids get that.”
