I have dyslexia and ADHD. I had difficulty concentrating all through school. Being Indian I was expected to do well, but I wasn’t that great in school. When I started to dance I felt that my parents could be proud of me for the first time. Dancing wasn’t a hobby for me, it was an obsession. I was constantly training in my garage. I created a style called Rawness, and I taught it to others. Dancing has opened so many doors for me, including being in a feature film in Fiji. I started a competition for Intermediate children which has been running for eight years. I wanted to create something which crossed over cultures and helped build empathy. It’s amazing to see the changes that occur in young people through the outlet of dance. I have been through so much but dance always grounds me. I have met people from all around the world…. and it all started from a garage in Mangere.
