“I have huge respect for my mum.
She is the epitome of not letting your past dictate your future. She is the hardest working person I know. I want to be like her.
She is my “why”. I’m studying because of her .
If she’s happy I will be happy. She is proud of me, I know that. But I want to keep making her proud.
My whole whanau moved to Aussie last year. I moved back to New Zealand. It was hard to leave my family behind to pursue my dream. We are close and have each other’s backs.
At the airport Mum said “prove them all wrong”, she was talking about the bullies and others that I have faced. I know why I am here in New Zealand and what I want to achieve with my studies, I want to open opportunities for other young pacific youth.”
