I became his full-time caregiver. I couldn’t sleep in peace without knowing I’d given something back to him. I couldn’t help it. I wanted to do it because he’d loved me so much. Christ says we love because he first loved us. I believe that. We can only love from the love we’ve been given. That’s where our capacity comes from. Grandad didn’t sit down or lecture me, he showed me by his life. Kids look at actions, not words. But they remember your words if they don’t see it in action. It’s our responsibility to take on someone that we can provide our consistency too. I used to think you had to do a lot, but now I see it’s just about being present with them. My Grandad can’t speak any more and needs full-time care. I looked after from 2010 to 2015. But his life is still here, in the community, helping people through me
