“Today I’m walking for my baby sister. She was sixteen when she took her life. That was eight years ago. I still blame myself because she came to me asking for help and I didn’t know how to give her what she needed. My whole family have been associated with gangs their whole life and I guess the drugs and alcohol were too much for her. Prior to her passing I had decided to get away from my negative family environment. Then when she took her life we stopped visiting altogether and never went back. We don’t want our grand-kids brought up around that stuff. We are walking today for our grand-kids to have a better life, to show them that there’s more out there. We always thought we were alone, but look around at how many people are here, we are walking with them too.”
